I have a long cycle, which varies between 30-34 days. I keep track of my cycle because we're trying out for a baby already, which is easier that way.

 

It was a bank holiday weekend (23-25 August 2008), I was particularly wary of my period coming because we're going swimming with friends. I so wanted to enjoy my time, that i was wishing for the red fairy not to make an early appearance. It didnt. I was aware that my period was late already, but didnt doubt for one second that i may be pregnant. We even went to a theme park and I even rode a rollercoaster (though i could only endure the kiddie one =D). I think I was already 34 days late at that time. There was one time when I didnt get my period till 40 days after, so the alarm bells werent going off at that time yet.

 

I didnt feel any symptoms apart from the sore boobs, which I usually get prior to having my aunt flo. However, looking back, i remember feeling dizzy while driving up to our friends' house. At that time, i blamed hunger for it. And motion sickness. My sense of smell's sensitivity has gone up one notch, though i didnt take much notice. To be honest, I wasnt expecting to get (be) pregnant. Seriously. I have my reasons.

When we got back from our trip, I felt the need to pee. But at the last minute, decided to do a home pregnancy test. What the heck, I have loads at home, I could waste one. I left the stick in the toilet and when i got back, I couldnt believe my eyes. There was a 2nd pink line. It was faint and I even thought that the plastic screen was just creating some shadow. In short, I wasnt sure. I didnt tell tantan yet. I didnt want to get his hopes high to just burst his bubble.

 

Next day, I decided to do another test. This time, with the first pee of the day. They said the hormones are stronger with the first pee. The second line was much clearer this time. I still couldnt believe it but I was getting more and more excited by the minute. To be sure, before heading home after work, i passed by the grocery to buy a different brand of pregnancy kit. It may be a fluke. I bought two sets. I immediately did one when i got home. Same two pink lines. I decided then to tell tantan.

 

I have always thought (and imagined) of the day I would tell tantan we're expecting. He's been wanting a baby for so long so I planned on telling him with a bang *lol*. I have lots of creative ideas - on how I'll tell him but at that time, I couldnt think of any!

 

Anyways, what I did was just gather up all my testers, put them in a gap bag and called him. I told him I have something for him. He wanted a ps3 at that time and kept on telling me he wants to buy one and knowing me, I end up buying things for him because he just couldnt decided (he was waiting for the cracked version, still is). He thought I bought him a ps3 and that I have the receipt in the bag. I told him it's not that and that he should open the bag instead.

He took the testers out and just looked at them. Of course, he didnt know that they mean. So I just told him, they all say positive - that I'm pregnant. We were at the stairs and he just hugged me and we both cried. He cried more than I did. He was also jumping up and down and was just happy.

 

That day, i got my 2 year-jail free card.
